Shaping smarter cities and communities with innovative digital technologies and solutions

This fireside chat is the kick-off session of the series dedicated to Smart Cities and Communities.  This series will find enablers for cities’ digital transformation journey, such as innovative technologies and solutions from Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Building Blocks and ISA² Programme. Cities, regions and municipalities are already using CEF Building Blocks such as Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI) or ISA² solutions such as the Core Vocabularies. In this session, representatives of different cities will explain why they decided to use a CEF Building Block or an ISA² solution for their city. Furthermore, they will comment on what was their experience and the added value for their administration by reusing them. The aim is to enhance the reuse of digital solutions offered by CEF and ISA² by showcasing practical use cases and raise awareness of the importance of interoperability in general. A secondary aim is to identify any potential barriers to reuse these solutions to improve their take up.

The second session of the series will take place immediately after this one, at 12.30 and will explore the proposed new European Interoperability Framework for Smart Cities and Communities. The third session of the series will take place on Thursday the 22nd – a joint session by the Living-in.EU community and the Covenant of Mayors - focusing on the potential of digital in driving the green transition at local level.
